Ekiben – train station bento

If you have ever caught the Shinkansen (bullet train) in Japan, chances are you may have bought an ekiben on the platform for your journey.   They are portable, often regional delicacies in a box to eat while you speed 285km p/hr

We’re doing our own ekiben to celebrate the new train station at Te Waihorotui near Aotea Square for $36

Each box contains
Sashimi fish, Chikuzen ni (braised vegetables, Japanese style) Tamago yaki rolled egg omelette, shioyaki salt grilled NZ salmon, our housemade quick pickles, sashimi, steamed rice and umeboshi plum and of course a bowl of Miso soup.
This box also has a choice of two mains: Either Jumbo prawns that are panko deep fried with our housemade taretare sauce or  kakuni (slow braised pork belly)

There is an option to also include our very popular dessert we created for Restaurant Month for $12. Kinako sundae is matcha warabi mochi, kinako roasted soya bean ice cream, sweet bean paste, and kuromitsu black sugar syrup
